Welcome to Your Advocacy Hub
Your Resource for ALL things Special Education Support
Guidance for parents
Advocacy for kids
I’m so glad you’re here!
My mission is to EMPOWER families by guiding them through the special education process with compassion, knowledge, and advocacy.
With experience as both a teacher and a parent, I understand the challenges and emotions of navigating IEPs and educational rights.
My focus is on ensuring that every child, especially those with dyslexia and learning differences, receives the support they need to succeed and thrive in school and beyond.
What is the Role of a Special Education Advocate?
A special education advocate provides you with information to fully understand the IEP/504 process.
The information an advocate gives you allows you to participate in making educational decisions for your child as a fully contributing member of the team. Your special education advocate can help you understand the full range of options available to you and communicate with your child’s IEP team effectively.
These services can have several beneficial outcomes for you and your family.
My goal is to empower you as a parent/guardian and ultimately give a voice to your child so they can access their learning style and feel more confident as a student.
Navigating the IEP Process
What is the process of an IEP from beginning to end:
Step #1: Prepare to be “That Parent.” Ask LOTS of questions in writing. Documentation is KEY. You are the only person advocating for your child.
Step #2: Get organized! Document EVERYTHING. Advice from a notable SPED attorney: “If you don’t document in writing, then it did not happen.”
Buy a Binder: Put everything into the binder in chronological order with the newest information on top.
Writing Samples- all report cards and teacher comments, progress reports, emails, state and district reports, copious notes at informal meetings, homework log (accommodations for students struggling at home but doing “okay” in the classroom.
*Also, you can request an educational record for your child which contains any and all testing, report cards, screenings and health records. IDEA states that you should receive this within 45 days, first copy is free of charge in NY.

Step #3: Request an evaluation for services for a child with Dyslexia: You have collected data and evidence, now it is time to write to your principal requesting an assessment.
